3 New NHL Locker Room Awards

Among teams in the NHL, the tradition of the post-win locker room award is as old as time.

Well, not really. Maybe a few years.

The Rangers might actually have one of the longest, with the Broadway Hat being awarded since 2011. To no one’s surprise, it returned this season with Henrik Lundqvist earning it Sunday night after the Blueshirts’ 2-0 blanking of the Montreal Canadiens.

Let’s round up the three new additions to the locker room award collection spotted so far in the first week of the season:

NEW JERSEY DEVILS

Nico Hischier was the first benefactor of the Devils Army Camo Jacket, given to the player who sticks up for his teammates. One of the themes coming from the team’s preseason bonding trip to West Point Military Academy was “Building a brotherhood, not a neighborhood.” The jacket serves as a consistent reminder.

The Devils won their season (also home) opener 4-1 against the Colorado Avalanche. During the game, Devils forward Kyle Palmieri took a nasty looking knee on knee collision with Eric Johnson of the Avs. Upon seeing this, 6-foot-1, 175-pound Hischier stormed in and shoved Johnson, who has 3 inches and 50 pounds on him. That move alone earned the No. 1 overall pick the camo jacket.

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS

Ryan Reaves did his post game interview on Saturday with a Pittsburgh Steelers No. 18 helmet on (no player is wearing 18 on the Steelers currently), complete with 80’s sunglasses style mirrored visor.

It was pretty great. TribLive confirmed this will be the team MVP trophy this season.

ST. LOUIS BLUES

The Blues went the classy route with their MVP award, choosing to honor a player from the original Blues team, Jimmy Roberts. Roberts played six seasons with the Blues, including the first five of the team’s existence, three of which extended to the Stanley Cup finals.

The hat Roberts is known for is a unique one, so Alex Steen of the Blues bought many options online in hopes to find the best replica.

There have been a lot of fun MVP trophies in locker rooms across the NHL over the years.

The Flames Helmet

I wonder if Jagr brings in a new one… maybe a mullet wig?

The Hot Dog Hat

Some team has to bring this back…

Still, I think my all-time favorite will forever be:
