Three-Time Olympic Gold Medalist Joins Islanders Broadcast
Team of Butch Goring, Brendan Burke, Shannon Hogan and AJ Mleczko
New York, NY (November 12, 2018) – MSG Networks (NYSE: MSGN) announced today that three-time Olympic Gold medalist Jennifer Botterill is joining the MSG Networks broadcast team this season as a studio analyst for select New York Islanders telecasts, starting with the Islanders/Canucks game tomorrow night on MSG+.
One of the most decorated women’s hockey players of all-time, Botterill will bring her expert analysis to approximately 20 Islanders broadcasts on MSG Networks this season. Botterill will team with Shannon Hogan, in her fifth year as Islanders host, for pre-game, intermission and post-game Islanders coverage on MSG+. Islanders legend and four-time Stanley Cup Champion Butch Goring is currently in his ninth season as in-game analyst, alongside play-by-play announcer Brendan Burke, who is in his third season in the booth.
Botterill joins her former Harvard teammate and Olympic Gold medalist AJ Mleczko, who was recently added to the Islanders broadcast team earlier this year, working select games as a studio analyst as well. While teammates at Harvard, Botterill and Mleczko led the Crimson to the 1999 NCAA Division I Women’s National Championship. In the title game, Botterill scored the game-winning overtime goal off an assist from Mleczko.
“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to join MSG Networks and the exceptional New York Islanders broadcast team,” said Botterill. “It’s a tremendous honor to be able to cover the Islanders, one of the NHL’s iconic franchises, and work alongside the entire MSG Networks’ Islanders family.”
Botterill had a storied international hockey playing career as a member of the Canadian women’s hockey team from 1997-2011. During that time, she competed in four Olympic Games, having led Canada to three Olympic Gold medals (2002, 2006, 2010) and one Silver medal (1998). She is also a five-time World Champion, where she was twice named the tournament’s most valuable player.
“We are excited to have four-time Olympic medalist Jennifer Botterill join the MSG Networks family and bring her insightful analysis to our Islanders coverage this season,” said Jeff Filippi, MSG Networks Senior Vice President of Programming and Production and Executive Producer. “Jennifer is an incredibly smart and dynamic broadcaster who will prove to be a perfect addition to our Islanders broadcast team.”
During her accomplished collegiate career, Botterill became the only two-time winner of the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, given to the top women’s college hockey player. Since transitioning to a career in broadcasting, the Winnipeg native has worked as a contributing host and hockey analyst for CBC, TSN and Sportsnet in Canada.
